The Deck of Many Games started as a tool I developed for game design students to use as a brainstorming and prototyping tool.
It is a set of 120 Tarot-sized cards, each with a ton of different markings that can be used to quickly try out simple card game ideas in a way that is more inspiring than a simple French deck or a pad of blank index cards.
Over 2017, the Deck was prototyped and tested and a Kickstarter was launched in February 2018. With very little pre-campaign advertising or marketing, the Deck raised nearly $7,000. Post-campaign, it was sold in the BoardGameGeek store and included in the goodie bag for the Tabletop Network conference.
